Market Updates

Update for October 29th:

The market finished the final session of the week in a mixed fashion. For the week, it was essentially flat. Interestingly, the VIX index has risen in each of the five sessions of the week, indicating market participants were anxious ahead of the big week, which includes the mid-term election, FOMC meeting and non-farm payrolls report.  For the month, the market has risen by more than 3%, posting its best October in five years. In other economic news, the advance reading on third quarter GDP indicated the economy expanded at an annualized rate of 2.0% in Q3, mostly in-line with expectations.

Most major sectors finished the session little changed. The CRB commodity index rose 0.3%. The US dollar was lower against most currencies. Treasury yields were lower. The three-month US LIBOR was unchanged. The VIX index was higher. The market was mixed on both NYSE and Nasdaq. The volume was lighter compared to the previous session.
